WILDERNESS PROGRESSIVE FLY FISHING PACK TRIP
Our progressive fly fishing horse pack trips begin out of Jardine, just east of Gardiner, near the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. You will be riding through magnificent country to mountain lakes and streams where we will cast our lines into these pristine waters for native cutthroat trout. As the sun sets we will make camp and restore our bodies for the next day’s adventure. Your ABO guides will set up camp and prepare supper while you relax and cool your thirst. You will be in two man tents. If you choose a five day trip, two of the 4 nights will be spent in Hellroaring, our base camp, located 8 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. Hellroaring sits on the edge of beautiful Bull Moose Meadow where the three forks of Hellroaring Creek come together. Your accommodations in Hellroaring will be roomy wall tents with foam padded cots and wood stoves. Propane lanterns are available but most people prefer their head lamps. A hot shower is also available in Hellroaring. We eat in a central eating tent with delicious food prepared by our camp cook.
Part of each day will be spent on horseback riding to our new fishing destinations. Once there you can lift those cutthroats right out of the mountain’s crystal clear waters. If you get tired of catching all those fish we can pan for gold, explore some Indian encampments, take some award winning photos, hike atop mountains exceeding 10,000 feet or take a nap in the lush meadows filled with wildflowers.
Our guides are well acquainted with the areas where you will be riding, fishing, hiking, and exploring. They are experienced outdoorsmen and flexible to your needs. Whatever your endeavor, our guides are there to assist you every step of the way. Our string of horses and mules are well suited to the mountain terrain. They have clocked in a lot of hours in the mountains and are as dependable as horses and mules can be. Previous riding experience is helpful but not required.
The weather in July and August is usually very comfortable. Daytime temperatures range from 60 to 80 degrees. On clear nights the temperatures can range from 20-40 degrees. However, the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness weather is variable so we ask our clients to come prepared for the changing temperatures.
